About.
The Blank Minds are an indie pop rock band from Los Angeles formed in 2016 during the peak years of their high school careers. Once moving on to college they started focusing on a new era of the group, with heavier influences in jazz, R&B and folk music. As the band underwent this transition, their lead singer Flynn Namala underwent a drastic transition as well, coming out as a transgender man around 2016. As a result the group became more active in the trans community as their new material focused primarily on his experience transitioning. Their latest EP "Becoming Him" (August 2018) works to encompass the initial year of Flynn's transition, dealing with topics from college existentialism, top surgery, and testosterone to achieving one's dreams, self acceptance and celebration. "Becoming Him" features the single Transient, which was released with a music video showcasing trans TBM listeners dancing their hearts out to the single. The release of the EP was accompanied with a fundraise in partnership with Point of Pride, a transgender non-profit dedicated to providing resources globally for trans persons, in which over 250 chest binders were donated to trans youth internationally. The Blank Minds are now working on their upcoming self-produced debut album, and are keeping themselves busy performing all over California.
